Compare the2025 BMW iXVS 2025 Porsche Taycan

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, Full-Time Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the iX. But it costs extra on the Taycan.

Both the iX and the Taycan have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The BMW iX weighs 478 to 1188 pounds more than the Porsche Taycan. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

BMW pays for scheduled maintenance on the iX for 1 year and 12000 miles longer than Porsche pays for maintenance for the Taycan (3/36,000 vs. 2/24,000).

There are over 76 percent more BMW dealers than there are Porsche dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the iX’s warranty.

For better traction, the iX has larger standard tires than the Taycan (235/60R20 vs. 225/55R19). The iX’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Taycan (275/40R22 vs. 265/35R21).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the iX xDrive50 has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the Taycan. The iX’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels optional on the Taycan.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the iX’s wheelbase is 3.8 inches longer than on the Taycan Cross Turismo (118.1 inches vs. 114.3 inches).

For greater off-road capability the iX has a 1.8 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Taycan (8.7 vs. 6.9 inches), allowing the iX to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

For excellent aerodynamics, the iX has standard flush composite headlights. The Taycan has recessed headlights that spoil its aerodynamic shape and create extra drag.

The iX has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Taycan Cross Turismo with its rear seat up (35.5 vs. 18.8 cubic feet). The iX has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Taycan Cross Turismo with its rear seat folded (77.9 vs. 45.8 cubic feet).

Pressing a switch automatically lowers the iX’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Taycan doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

If the windows are left open on the iX the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Taycan can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The iX’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Taycan’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

Laser headlights, optional on the iX, produce their light by firing blue lasers through phosphorus, a process that uses one-half the power of the Taycan’s LED headlights. Laser headlights can have double the range of LEDs with a much smaller surface area.

Consumer Reports rated the iX’s headlight performance “Good,” a higher rating than the Taycan’s headlights, which were rated “Fair.”

J.D. Power and Associates rated the iX first among upper midsize premium suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The Taycan isn’t in the top three in its category.

The BMW iX outsold the Porsche Taycan by over three to one during 2024.
