Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The 4 Series Gran Coupe offers an optional Active Park Distance Control that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. Warranty

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that BMW vehicles are better in initial quality than Audi vehicles. With 73 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks BMW higher than Audi.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Audi vehicles. J.D. Power ranks BMW above average in long-term dependability. With 13 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Audi is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2026 Auto Issue reports that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Audi vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks BMW 8 places higher in reliability than Audi.

Engine

The M440i Coupe’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid produces 24 more horsepower (386 vs. 362) than the A6’s 3.0 turbo V6.

Regenerative brakes improve the 4 Series Gran Coupe’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The A6 doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe higher (6 to 7 out of 10) than the Audi A6 (4). This means the 4 Series Gran Coupe produces up to 13.2 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the A6 every 15,000 miles.

Transmission

An eight-speed automatic is standard on the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the A6.

Chassis

The BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 50 to 400 pounds less than the Audi A6.

The 4 Series Gran Coupe is 8.3 inches shorter than the A6, making the 4 Series Gran Coupe easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Model Availability

The BMW 4 Series comes in coupe, convertible and four door hatchback bodystyles; the Audi A6 isn’t available as a coupe or convertible.

The 4 Series Gran Coupe is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The A6 doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Economic Advantages

According to iSeeCars.com the 2026 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe retains 43% of its original value after 5 years, more than the 39.09% resale value of the 2026 Audi A6 after five years, which can save the BMW’s owner up to $6566 in depreciation.

Recommendations
